Alma és fája – Mihály Berecz and András Berecz with the Budapest Strings

Those who attended the latest concert of the “Alma és fája” series were treated to a captivating experience. Each concert in the series presents several generations of a family, all acclaimed artists in their own right, for whom performing together is a special occasion too. This time the guests of the Budapest Strings were pianist Mihály Berecz, winner of the Junior Prima Award, and his father, András Berecz, Kossuth Prize-winning singer, folk tale collector and storyteller. Mihály Berecz gave virtuoso performances of two early Haydn piano concertos, with the greatest stylistic assurance and in complete harmony with the orchestra. Alongside Mozart’s Eine kleine Nachtmusik, the evening also featured Sándor Veress’s Four Transylvanian Dances, while András Berecz’s improvised tales, linked to the character of the works, complemented the programme. Despite the “classical” concert, the audience’s laughter muscles were at times seriously put to work! The host of the evening and of the whole series is music historian Szabolcs Molnár, who shared many interesting details about the pieces and also invited the guest artists to talk on stage.

The next Alma és fája concert will be on 12 February 2027 at BMC, featuring the Eredics family. The programme includes Vivaldi concertos and South Slavic music, with the Budapest Strings and concertmaster János Pilz of course. It is well worth coming!

In the meantime, enjoy the photos of the last concert!
