Marcell Vámos was born in Budapest in 1976. He began cello lessons at age 6 with Zsuzsa Pröhle. At Bartók Béla Grammar School of Music, Ottó Kertész and György Déri were his teachers. He graduated from Liszt Ferenc University of Music in 2001 as the student of Csaba Onczay.

Since 2011 he has been the principal viola of Budapest Strings Chamber Orchestra, and in addition, he also leads the cello section in MÁV Symphony Ochestra and is also the artist of the Sopron-founded Wespa String Quartet.
