Botvay 88 – online concert
His birthday, the Budapest Strings celebrate Károly Botvay, Professor Emeritus of the Academy of Music, with music by Haydn and Mozart. The eminent teacher has been a defining figure in Hungarian music life, as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral conductor, ensemble founder, artistic director and – in the broadest possible sense of the word – educator for more than six decade. In addition to his solo career, he played for decades as a cellist in world-traveling quartets (Bartók String Quartet, Végh String Quartet, New Budapest String Quartet) and as a conductor of symphony orchestras (Opera House Orchestra, Budapest Festival Orchestra, Austro-Hungarian Haydn Orchestra). He has been exploiting his particularly rich musical experience as an organizer and festival founder, and has been leading and shaping the Budapest String Chamber Orchestra for more than four decades. On his birthday, fellow students talk about their relationship with the beloved and respected Teacher during an intimate podium talk session.
